Ketu Antardasha Pratyantardashas: Order, Durations & Themes
Ketu antardashas are traditionally the inward passages of the cycle, and their pratyantardashas divide that inwardness into research, practice, clarification, and release. Ketu's themes do not accumulate the way Venus's or Jupiter's do; they clarify by subtraction, and pratyantardasha timing inside Ketu antardashas marks which weeks favour study, which favour practice, and which favour letting go. As with every dasha level, what follows describes traditional themes, not guaranteed events.
The nine pratyantardashas, in order
Inside any Ketu antardasha, the pratyantardashas run in the Vimshottari order beginning with Ketu itself: Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury. Their lengths scale with the antardasha that contains them; the table below gives the exact durations for Ketu antardasha inside Ketu mahadasha, where the antardasha lasts 4 months, 27 days. For a Ketu antardasha in another mahadasha, multiply every table entry by that antardasha's length divided by 4 months, 27 days.
- Ketu pratyantardasha: 9 days (4m 27d x 7 / 120 years)
- Venus pratyantardasha: 24 days (4m 27d x 20 / 120 years)
- Sun pratyantardasha: 7 days (4m 27d x 6 / 120 years)
- Moon pratyantardasha: 12 days (4m 27d x 10 / 120 years)
- Mars pratyantardasha: 9 days (4m 27d x 7 / 120 years)
- Rahu pratyantardasha: 22 days (4m 27d x 18 / 120 years)
- Jupiter pratyantardasha: 20 days (4m 27d x 16 / 120 years)
- Saturn pratyantardasha: 23 days (4m 27d x 19 / 120 years)
- Mercury pratyantardasha: 21 days (4m 27d x 17 / 120 years)
Those nine lengths sum exactly to 4 months, 27 days, which is the sum check for the table. The antardasha itself is described in full in the Ketu-Ketu antardasha guide; this page covers only its third-level division.
The opening pratyantardasha: the lord doubled
The opening pratyantardasha of any Ketu antardasha belongs to Ketu itself, and it traditionally doubles the antardasha's signature: detachment and inquiry at their most concentrated. This opening passage is traditionally the time when the antardasha's question declares itself, often as a dissatisfaction with what previously sufficed, and it rewards research and honest inventory over new entanglement. A Ketu opening that coincides with Ketu transiting the natal Ketu, Moon, or lagna traditionally feels most inward.
Benefic pratyantardashas through this antardasha
Benefic pratyantardashas inside a Ketu antardasha traditionally give detachment a constructive form. Jupiter pratyantardashas bring wisdom, teaching, and spiritual counsel; Venus pratyantardashas, the longest inside any Ketu antardasha, bring affection and beauty returning inside detachment, and repair rather than new entanglement; Mercury pratyantardashas bring research, analysis, and writing; Moon pratyantardashas bring feeling, memory, and domestic quiet. These are traditionally the best weeks for study, practice, and reconciliation without grasping.
Shadow pratyantardashas through this antardasha
Shadow pratyantardashas inside a Ketu antardasha traditionally sharpen its cuts. Saturn pratyantardashas bring duty and sober separation; Mars pratyantardashas bring abrupt action and friction; Rahu pratyantardashas bring confusion and unconventional pressure, the nodal axis in tension with itself; Sun pratyantardashas bring authority friction and identity questioning. The classical counsel is deliberateness: let releases be chosen rather than reactive, and let research precede any cut that cannot be undone.
How to use these weeks in practice
Use Ketu antardasha pratyantardashas as clearings with purposes. Before a Ketu passage, choose what to finish or release; before a Jupiter passage, choose what to study; before a Venus passage, choose what to repair; before a Mercury passage, choose what to research. Check the pratyantardasha lord's transit over the natal Ketu and lagna, and remember the antardasha is senior: a quiet passage inside a strong Ketu antardasha is restoration, not emptiness, and a cutting passage inside a strained one is a release to handle deliberately.
